DEFINITIONS USED IN FURNITURE INDUSTRY


Linear meter – definition to express the size of furniture, e.g.: “This kitchen is 5 linear meters long”

HDF – High Density Fiberboard

MDF - Medium Density Fiberboard, used in moisture-proof kitchen or bathroom furniture when painted

HPL – High Pressure Laminate

Tabletop – the highest horizontal part of table or cupboard

Laminate – chipboard covering featuring a color or/and texture

PVC edge – polyvinylchloride edge – plastic material for finishing chipboard sides

ABS edge - Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene edge – plastic ecologic material for finishing chipboard sides. Almost inflammable, more resistant, and more expensive material than PVC edge

Melamine edge – paper-like material for finishing chipboard sides

Triplex – glass made of two sheets of glass divided by adhesive or polymer film layer

Kitchen isle – kitchen table or cupboard located in the center of kitchen instead near wall. It can feature sink, oven, or other kitchen appliances

How to install and choose furniture, furniture colors?

  • Measure your premises
  • Identify positions of needed communications such as electricity
  • Consider required capacity and functionality
  • Decide color fitting with other elements of interior
  • Review our furniture galleries
  • Choose materials, colors of the furniture. Have in mind that colors might differ in screen and reality. If color shades are very important factor, we recommend to visit our showroom to have a live look before choosing chipboards or edges
  • Choose furniture fittings or come to our showroom and we will find the best solution together by choosing from almost 4,000 furniture parts.

Where to buy furniture?

We offer to acquire non-standard individually designed furniture. Choosing furniture made by Diforma your home will become exclusive, you will spend less time in decorating it and you will get free furniture delivery and mounting service to your home in Kaunas (for orders of €500 and more). You will find everything your furniture need in one place - from furniture boards to tiny furniture parts.

How to transport furniture?

Generally, we transport the furniture divided in separate modules and covered with protective “Stretch” film. These modules are gently loaded into the truck ensuring that they will stay stable during the route. However, if you order furniture from Diforma, you won’t have to worry about it as we will deliver and install your furniture  in Kaunas for free (if ordered for more than €500).

How to use and take care of furniture?

  • Clean the furniture with wet cloth, but do not let water or other liquids to stay on it for too long - liquid may get through the cracks inside the chipboard and damage it.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning products containing ammonia, alcohol, or softeners.
  • Do not leave alcohol, coffee, blueberry, and similar hard cleaned blots on furniture for a long time
  • Do not hang heavy things on cabinet doors or drawers because hinges and other parts may lose adjustment
  • When not in use, keep drawers and cabinet doors closed so that they would not deform.
  • Evenly distribute weights placed on shelves, otherwise the overload may cause bends.
  • Use the mouse pads - from mouse rubbing on the table or laser exposure the laminate of furniture may fade or wear out.
  • Use cutting boards, otherwise you may damage the worktop.
  • Avoid constant sunlight targeted at the furniture - over the years the color may fade.
  • We recommend to keep the temperature of 5-40 ° C and relative humidity of 30-70% in premises containing furniture made of laminated chipboard
  • Painted MDF furniture is more resistant to humidity and can be stored in bathrooms.
  • Close heat sources may dry your furniture and thus gradually make it deformed.
  • When moving furniture from one place to another, lift and carry it instead of dragging on the ground, otherwise you may break the legs or damage other joints.

How to use furniture with pneumatic and hydraulic pistons?

Pneumatic and hydraulic pistons installed in furniture slides, hinges or lifting, lowering, and raising mechanisms are designed for gentle and easy opening or closing of furniture doors or other facade parts. Do not push the mechanism when closing them – it should close furniture itself. Additional power may damage the piston installed in mechanism because it is designed for loads by size, weight and opening type of the door or a drawer.

How to adjust hinges?

If door of the cabinet is not closing properly, take a screwdriver and adjust hinges: (adjustment distances are shown for FGV hinges)

Depth adjustment

With A screw you can adjust distance between the cabinet and the door

Side adjustment

With B screw you can change the amount of door covering the cabinet

Vertical adjustment

With C screw you can move the door up and down

Do not change position of the doors, otherwise they can unfit and not open or close properly

How to take out the drawers?

To fully pull out and take out the drawer, depending on installed slides you may need to follow these steps:

For drawers with simple slides and some of the Blum slides:

  1. Fully pull out the drawer
  2. Lift up the front part
  3. Pull the drawer to yourself
  4. Carefully take out the drawer box
  5. To put the drawer back, evenly insert rails back to the places

For drawers with side-bending fixators:

  1. Fully pull out the drawer
  2. Unbend plastic parts of slides that stop the drawer
  3. Carefully take out the drawer box
  4. To put the drawer back, evenly insert rails back to the places

For drawers with ball slides:

  1. Fully pull out the drawer
  2. Press the fixators located in sides to the center of slides (one up, one down)
  3. Carefully take out the drawer box
  4. To put the drawer back, evenly insert rails back to the places

The drawer may not slide as smoothly as before after taking it out and putting back. It is inadvisable to do this operation often. Do not change the positions of drawers – they may unfit or not slide smoothly.

How to repair furniture?

If the cabinet door or other part is broken, sometimes it is not necessary to change the entire cabinet - in most cases it is enough to change broken hinges or other furniture fitting. Choose needed parts from our catalogue
